Empathy
This too shall pass.
It’s easier to say this when you’re no longer in a difficult phase, but it’s not always easy to believe it yourself when the light at the end of the tunnel seems distant. Every test and trial is meant to stretch us, and no matter how much stretching you’ve experienced in the past, a new challenge can still feel overwhelming. Life isn’t built to be easy, and everyone faces their own struggles. You may not relate to someone’s challenge, but that doesn’t mean their situation is any easier or less significant.
Some might argue that financial problems are the easiest to overcome, while others might contend that health issues are the worst. Yet, others might say that having money solves health problems, and there are those who struggle with identity crises, isolation, social pressure, or a lack of self-actualization. The list of challenges is endless, and no one struggle is inherently better or worse than another. It’s important not to diminish someone’s difficulty just because it differs from our own.
Being kind and patient is crucial. You never know if someone is just trying to navigate a difficult time. Always assume the best in people and give them the benefit of the doubt when they fall short of your expectations. While there are certainly individuals who might misuse your kindness, this shouldn’t overshadow the fact that many people are genuinely doing their best. Extending a little grace can go a long way.
