Intimacy
Today’s the last day of January 2021 and I’m so elated! this month has been awesome!!!
I came to the realisation that most times we spend so much time living under the rules and dogma set by religious denominations that we end up neglecting our personal time/walk with God. Have you ever had the time to think of why there are denominational barriers in the church? Since we basically serve the same God and believe in His son Jesus Christ, why do we have denominations that believe they are superior to the other, or are more Christian or spiritual than the other.
A quote by Bob Goff; one of my favourite authors reads “Jesus doesn’t turn people into Christians; He turns them into love”
The two main commandments of Jesus which every other commandments are embedded in are the love of God and love of neighbour. I am not objecting doctrines of the church or anything but you might not have noticed that we spend more time living up to these dogmas instead of reflecting Jesus through our daily lives. Let your life be the gospel people see and not necessarily trying to impose ones beliefs on them. Jesus talked a lot about how we should identify ourselves. He said it wouldn’t be what you said you believed or all the good you hoped to do someday. He said you would identify yourself simply by how you loved people. Love is not something you fall into; love is someone you become. You can only overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21)
The story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42) is one that makes me really question my walk with
God. Jesus came to the house of Martha, She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet
listening to what He said. But Martha was “distracted” by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” Martha, Martha, “the Lord answered, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her.” Jesus reminded Martha and us what our main priority should be; which is a relationship with Him
In Mark 7:1-23, Jesus reprimanded the Jews for nullifying the word of God by their doctrine or traditions. There are so many instances in the bible where Jesus opposed the Church doctrines, their stiff rules and regulations (if you go through the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, you will see a lot). Our conscience is there and we all know what is right or wrong. The bible says God has put His law in our hearts and He wrote them in our minds (Heb 10:16), so you shouldn’t act like you don’t know what is right or wrong. Yes there are times you might need clarity and it’s totally okay to ask a fellow believer/priest/pastor for direction. But you shouldn’t spend so much time being distracted by these manmade rules and regulations that you neglect what is truly important; your personal walk with God, or waste valuable time opposing other religions and beliefs that you forget to live in love and be love.
Jesus did not die to give us a religion. He died so that through faith in Him we could have an intimate relationship with God – (Joyce Meyer)
You can hardly change yourself, not to talk of changing others. Only God has the power to do that, all you can do is literally love and pray for people and let God do the fixing in them and in you. If you have to evangelize, kindly do it with love (the freedom, satisfaction and joy derived from knowing God intimately is something the world should know/experience)
Just to reiterate, I am not opposing any doctrine, all I’m saying is spend more time studying the word for you and knowing God for yourself so you won’t be easily swayed or become gullible.
(Hosea 4:6; My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge), (Proverb 4:5-9) get wisdom, do not forsake but love wisdom and she will protect and watch over you. Get understanding, cherish and embrace her and she will exalt and honour you….
Don’t waste so much time judging others when you can simply love them. Everyone got an opinion, be an example.
My final words 😁:
Do not try to substitute time spent working for God for time spent being with God.
Embrace the freedom, joy and peace Jesus died for you to have.
Every selfless act of love is a declaration of faith.
The flesh cannot conquer the flesh; ask for God’s grace to truly seek him
Interesting Read.
