Surrendering
Surrendering is really an easy thing to say but definitely hard to live up to, even though it’s one of the most relieving decisions one can make. We go through life, constantly working tirelessly for a breakthrough or what we presume to be a better life, but when your efforts always seem futile and motivations are really low. You start doubting yourself and competence, insecurities start piling up. Most times you’re tired of studying the word or even praying, and it gets worse when the situation persist. You’ve heard the same words of encouragement severally that you know exactly what each person is about to say without blinking an eyelid.
That’s when opinions and conspiracy theories start rolling in; it gets really hard most times to block the noise or stay sane. You get to even question your spiritual life and your standings with God; crazy stuff yeah. Some days you’re excited, in a high spirit with the firm confidence that God sees you, while other days it’s a battle to stay sane. It’s just really hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you’re persistently going through a hard time in a particular area of your life. Sometimes, it’s hard to cry because there are no tears left in you. You don’t even feel sad that much; just a shadow of yourself, basically always numb.
Recently, I read the story of Joseph again because I believed it will strengthen me. I observed after Joseph told the king’s cup bearer not to forget him, he was actually forgotten for two whole years (yeah, we all know this already) but what struck me the most was the prompting of the Holy Spirit in my heart opening my eyes to see that if the cupbearer actually remembered Joseph immediately he was reinstated to his previous position and probably Joseph got released before the anointed time, how would Pharaoh or anyone be able to locate him??? He might just wonder about to another destination and he’ll most likely be unable to fulfil his destiny. God needed Joseph to be there, the conditions surrounding him might be harsh but it was for the greater good. God gives everybody the right amount of grace to sustain them at every phase of their lives; that’s basically why St Paul said the grace of God is sufficient for me (2 Cor 12:9).
Meditate on this; God’s ways are superior to our ways and absolutely no one can fathom the thoughts of God. (Romans 11:34, Job 11:7, Isaiah 40:28)
Another thing that got me thinking was when Joseph told his brothers not to feel bad for selling him but it was to save lives that God sent him ahead (they intended it for evil; which was hurtful and God allowed it persist because it was the right path for him).
Character or attitude moulding is pretty hard; and frustrating when you try on your own, fundamentally impossible when someone is trying to change you especially at an older age. But the process will dismember you (maybe that’s not the best word but you get my point) and mould you into a better and more compassionate human being with the right attitude and mindset that will definitely sustain you for a life time (James1:2-4); the bible says it will make you mature and complete, not lacking anything (NIV)
Surrendering is hard, I’m being honest with you right now but that’s the only way you can be sane during trials. Taking life the way you see it, doing the much you can and trusting the Lord to provide. Cast all your burdens/anxieties on Him because He deeply cares for you (1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 55:22).
Enjoy your life and do not let the insecurities and those pessimistic thoughts steal your joy (they will definitely come but rebuke it); and the way people perceive you is really none of your business. Live your life and be confident that God will surely make a way, even when you do not feel it.
There will certainly be days you’ll doubt and you do not feel like praying or reading the Bible and you beat yourself up unnecessarily or a feeling of isolation. God will surely align events or people to encourage you but just do not harden your heart. And when it’s hard to let these words in, slow down, take a break and relax or basically just sleep.
Always Remember
• You’re not isolated in your struggles.
. Hang in there; there's hope, it will get better.
• Tough times and the storms do not diminish the reality of God’s presence. He’s always watching over us even when we do not feel it.
• Remain Confident, you’ll definitely see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living (sooner than you expect) Psalm 27:13
Every Storm Runs Out of Rain.
Encouraging words, God bless
